Watchlist Application

The Watchlist application lets an user add specific pages and spaces to a personal watchlist. He or she can then subscribe to receive notifications by e-mail or RSS when of the followed pages undergoes a modification.

Warning: This feature is currently unavailable in XWiki Enterprise Manager (aka multiwiki or virtual wikis). You can vote for the blocking issue, XPWATCHLIST-19.

Follow selected pages & spaces

The watchlist application is available from the top bar menu. Its features can be accessed easily by hovering over the button. The 3 entries available are:

  • Watch this page: you follow modifications affecting the page you are currently viewing
  • Watch this space: you follow the modifications taking place on the whole space you are currently looking at
  • Manage your watchlist: change your notification preferences

When a page is followed, the star changes its color.

You can choose your notification settings on your watchlist personal page.

After clicking on the "manage your watchlist" button, you get access to the page where you can set your personal notification preferences. You can subscribe to your watchlist either by RSS (the feed is automatically updated each time one of the followed pages get changed) or by mail. If you subscribe by mail, you will receive an e-mail summing up changes to the pages you are watching. You can set the email delay to one hour, one day, one week or one month depending on your preferences.

For those migrating (for myself, it was from 1.3.1 to 1.4.1), deleting all WatchListJobs in the Scheduler and restarting the container to have them recreated, have help me a lot to have watchlist working properly. (Before, mails contains an exception due to improper rights)

Note that WatchList (at least in 1.4.1) use by default XWiki.Admin to manage their right access. If XWiki.Admin has no access to the document, an exception occurs.

Note also that the frequency of notification is taken from the last character of the job name. This is a good trick if you have to add a test job for temporary tuning.
