Watchlist Application

The Watchlist application lets an user add specific pages and spaces to a personal watchlist. He or she can then subscribe to receive notifications by e-mail or RSS when one of the followed pages undergoes a modification.

Following selected pages & spaces

The watchlist application is available from the top bar menu. Its features can be accessed easily by hovering over the button. The 4 available entries are:

  • Watch this page: you follow modifications affecting the page you are currently viewing
  • Watch the current space: you follow the modifications taking place on the whole space you are currently looking at
  • Watch the current wiki: you follow modifications taking place on the whole wiki
  • Manage your watchlist: change your notification preferences
The watchlist application can be used from the top bar:

Following selected pages & spaces with XWiki Enterprise 2.1

Starting with XWiki Enterprise 2.1 you can notice a redesign in the action menus for the Colibri Skin. If you are using the latest XWiki you can:

  • Watch a page straight from the top of the page by clicking on the "Watch" link.

When a page is followed, the star changes its color:

  • Watch the current space by clicking on the "Watch space" link in the Space menu

  • Watch the current wiki by clicking on the "Watch Wiki" link in the XWiki menu

  • Manage your watchlist by clicking on "Watchlist" in the Administrator menu

Managing your watchlist

After clicking on the "Manage your watchlist" button, you get access to a page where you can set your personal notification preferences. You can subscribe to your watchlist either by RSS (the feed is automatically updated each time one of the followed pages gets changed) or by mail.

Configuring your wiki to receive email notifications

Should you wish to subscribe by mail to your watchlist you will need to go to the General preferences in Administration and fill in the following fields:

  • Server
  • Port
  • User
  • Password
  • JavaMail properties
E.g. If you are using Google SMTP server

Once you have configured your watchlist you can start watching pages, spaces or even the whole wiki. You will receive an e-mail summing up changes.

Setting the email delay

You can set the email delay to one hour, one day or one week depending on your preferences. To do so click on "Manage your watchlist" in the "Watch" menu and select the desired delay from the Frequency drop-down:

Viewing the elements in your watchlist

You can view the elements in your watchlist from the Watchlist Manager. You will see a list of the pages and spaces you are following with the possibility of removing them from the Watchlist.
