Wanted Applications

Put here Applications that you'd love to see written or bundled (and then pray that someone will be kind enough to work on them! :-)).
  • Vacation Scheduler
  • Workflow Definitions. Ability to define workflow where data entry forms are linked together as dependencies and individuals are assigned to each form. after one form is submitted there should be an ability to send email notifications to all in the chain and a specific message to next person in chain.
  • Work Order Management, where you can create a list of workers, and create tasks (define properties like requester dept. and name, project containing the task, date of creation, details, and notes). Assign tasks to a worker, and track hours in each task, finally close tasks. Should be able to extract simple reports, like n. of open/closed tasks, min., max. and average hours per task, listing per requester, and per worker, etc.
  • An application for collaborative management of software translation files, similar to the Launchpad Rosetta product for instance.
  • A Survey application to allow users to quickly build surveys within XWiki and to retrieve their data in a number of formats (eg. csv, pdf, xml, mysql dialect). Done
  • An application to create a template for a new page. This application would allow an admit to create a template so that when a user clicks on the New Page button, the template loads automatically.
    • I think we have this already, see XWiki/XWikiClasses, select a class and you'll see that you can create documents with templates. --VincentMassol
  • An application that allows people to post their reading Tracks. The idea is to transform the wiki into an article or book by organizing pages sequentially and hiding the complexity. Imagine for example a beginner's track that would provide just the pages required to get started. Another track could be about wiki administration, another about writing plugins, etc. What's interesting is the ability for people to contribute tracks (i.e. their views).
  • A social userpage, which would enhance interaction between users but not concurencing Facebook.
    • - A contact list
      • -> That redirect on the other user profile [Simple "Add to my contact list"]
      • -> With a simple user friendly management of the contact categories. [Tags]
      • -> With possibility to show some personal information (ie pers. tel) with specific users. [Share]  <- public wikis feature, makes public wiki directories and give a reason to people to come back to the site.
    • - A user discussion wall
      • -> Very simple, with a tweeter feel (but no characters limits).
      • -> That cover user to user discussions but also pages discussions
      • -> Each discussion is a brick, each time a user participates to a brick (responding to a message on a page, a user page... or is added to the brick), he gets the brick on his wall too.
      • -> Bricks can be linked to a page (bricks are the discussions on pages) or linked only with the brick title (started between users).
      • -> Users can be invited to a brick (users to users) or join a brick (page based).
      • -> About joining user to user bricks... There could be standard friend-to-friend bricks (all user to user started bricks-> choose hidden/shown)  and possibility to create "open bricks" were all users are welcome to join. We could also imagine to mashup the forum with this. The old separated forum would become a "see bricks you can join" option on the user page.
      • -> About user interface design, the question can be : is it better to show the bricks on the wall /or/ the messages with an option "see the whoole brick" Facebook has answered for the second option, this is my opinion too since user is more likely to want to see them last messages than getting into a brick logic. Here the brick logic becomes nearly transparent for the user, they only see them last messages they could have sent from them page or other wiki pages, with an option to show the full ordered discussion, like in Gmail.
    • => This would have to be thought further, yet the idea is to make a user friendly, natural, simple... but powerful unified system of communication for the wiki. This would be something like a light adaptation to Facebook wall / Google wave's waves. => with the fact we have to think that it could be good to make it interacts with Google waves in one year on public wikis and firms intranet based on Google apps.
